About Canada potato import volume
Canada is the one origin on this site that is not a US growing district: it tracks the volume of Canadian potatoes crossing into the United States, mainly out of Alberta, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island and Quebec. Those provinces grow and store potatoes on much the same fall-harvest, cellar-through-the-year calendar as the northern US storage regions, and much of what crosses the border is repacked and sold through East Coast terminal markets rather than quoted at a US shipping point.
Because of that, this page tracks import volume in hundredweight, not an FOB price. Canadian potatoes compete with the US crop mainly on the eastern seaboard and in the Upper Midwest, so a jump in Canadian crossings is one of the more useful early reads on pressure building against Eastern storage-region prices, districts like Maine, New York and Michigan, before it necessarily shows up in their own quotes.
