## About Florida potato prices

Florida grows a single winter-and-spring fresh crop, red, white and yellow round potatoes, with red carrying the most volume of the three on this site, and it is one of the larger fresh-market origins outside the West's storage regions. It has never quoted a russet.

Packing splits fairly evenly between 50 lb sacks and 50 lb cartons, with 2,000 lb bulk totes and baled consumer bags behind them, so no single pack style defines a Florida quote the way cartons define Idaho's. Because Florida is a fresh crop rather than a storage one, it ships for a defined stretch of the year and then stops until the next planting, the same rotation pattern as [California](/origin/california) and the East Coast's round-potato districts, just earlier in the calendar than most of them. Florida's finish typically hands the round-potato trade off to the mid-Atlantic districts, Virginia, Delaware and North Carolina, as their own crops come in behind it.
