Previous weeks

An earlier week

Wisconsin russet 70-count norkotah gained $8.00/cwt to $42.00/cwt, leading a broad board rally. Most origins and counts firmed $2.00 to $6.00/cwt on the week. Minnesota reds slipped $1.00/cwt, the sole softness in the table.

Week of Aug 10, 2026

Columbia Basin russet 40–50-count norkotah rose to mostly $13.00/50 lb carton, up $3.00/cwt on the week. The week saw broad strength, with gains ranging from $0.50 to $3.00/cwt across origins.

How to read this weekly potato report

This board is the week's potato report in one table: the quotes that moved most across every origin, variety and pack currently reporting to USDA, ranked by the size of the move rather than by price level.

Read a row from the left. The first column names what is being quoted, an origin, a variety and a size or count, because a potato price means nothing without its spec attached. The second is the price as USDA published it, per pack, as a range. The third puts that same quote on a per-hundredweight basis so a 50 lb carton, a baled 10 by 5 lb consumer bag and a 2,000 lb bulk tote sit on one scale. The fourth is the week-over-week change on that per-cwt basis, and it is what the board sorts on. The last names the USDA shipping point report the quote came from.

The sort runs on the size of the move, not its direction, so a row can reach the top for falling as easily as for rising. Read the sign in the week-over-week column before reading the rank. Large steps usually trace to something structural rather than to the market as a whole repricing: a district starting or finishing its crop, a shift in the size or grade mix being quoted, or freight.

The board is rebuilt with each weekly brief off the same USDA reports that feed every price page here. For the longer history behind any row, follow it to its origin, variety or pack page.
